What Can I Expect with Nitrous Oxide Sedation?

If you are receiving nitrous oxide sedation for your treatment, it will be administered through a mask placed over your nose. As you inhale the gas, you should very quickly start to feel more relaxed. You can expect a tingling sensation in your outer extremities and a feeling of well-being, warmth, and euphoria as the gas kicks in. Our team will monitor your reaction and health throughout the procedure, making adjustments as needed to help keep you at ease. Nitrous oxide is normally used along with a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, to numb your mouth. After the procedure is complete, the gas will be turned off and the effects should start to fade over the next few minutes.

About Us
Can I drive myself home after receiving nitrous oxide sedation?

After receiving nitrous oxide sedation at Fresh Dentistry, it's important to avoid driving immediately. Although the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly once the gas is turned off, individual responses can vary. We recommend arranging for a responsible adult to drive you home after your appointment to ensure your safety and well-being.

What should I do if I feel uncomfortable during nitrous oxide sedation?

If you start to feel uncomfortable or uneasy during nitrous oxide sedation, it's crucial to signal to our team immediately. At Fresh Dentistry, your comfort and safety are our top priorities. Dr. Brown and our team will be monitoring you closely throughout the procedure and can adjust the level of sedation as needed to ensure you remain relaxed yet responsive.

How will I feel after the nitrous oxide is turned off?

Once the nitrous oxide is turned off, the sedative effects should diminish rapidly, typically within minutes. You may feel a bit drowsy initially, but this sensation usually fades quickly, allowing most patients to return to their normal activities shortly after the procedure.
