What Is Root Canal Therapy?

When a tooth becomes chipped or a cavity is found, the standard treatment is usually to address the issue with a filling or restoration. However, as the bacteria spreads to the center of the tooth (sometimes known as the pulp), root canal treatment is likely needed to restore dental wellness and save the tooth from removal. A root canal is an endodontic service performed at Fresh Dentistry to remove infected inner tooth tissue and restructure the affected tooth to enhance dental wellness. Dr. Candace Brown treats infected or internally decayed teeth utilizing delicate root canal treatment and employs sedation techniques to further enhance patient comfort. If you find yourself with a decayed or infected tooth, call our Cedar Hill, TX practice today to learn more about the benefits of contemporary root canal therapy.

What Can I Expect During My Root Canal?

Root canals are performed at our Cedar Hill, TX office with the help of local anesthesia to keep you relaxed and comfortable during the procedure. Our team is also happy to provide sedation options for patients who need added support to feel at ease. After numbing the affected tooth, we will place a protective shield to block the rest of the mouth. The abscessed region will then be reached via a little opening created in the top of the tooth. The pulp, the structure that comprises the nervous tissues and blood storage for each tooth, is then removed. After removing any signs of decay, the tooth will be disinfected, and Dr. Brown will fill it and seal it off to allow it to heal.

I'm writing on behalf of my mother in law. She is a 74 year old lady and she is absolutely terrified of the dentists. The office is clean and staff are welcoming. Dr. Brown and her assistant Angela were both so patient and so sweet to my mom. She got an extraction and a root canal done the same day. This lady walked out smiling! She was so happy and couldn't stop talking about how great of a job they did when we got home. Thank you again Fresh dentistry!

Dr. Brown is great and her staff is awesome as well. My initial visit was great and the hygienist did an excellent job cleaning my teeth. I came back for two fillings and a root canal. I was terrified but Dr. Brown made me feel so comfortable during the procedure, she explained everything the entire time, and No Pain at all! I trust her with my dental care and I’m happy I found her.

About Us
Does a root canal hurt?

Root canals are often associated with pain, but the procedure itself should not be painful. Local anesthesia is used to numb the affected area and keep you comfortable during the procedure. Sedation options may also be available for those who need additional support to feel at ease. Rest assured that Dr. Brown does everything possible to ensure a pain-free experience for patients.

Is root canal therapy necessary?

Root canals are only needed when the inner tissue of the tooth is infected or decayed. For minor cavities or chipped teeth, a filling or restoration may be sufficient. It is important to address any dental issues promptly to prevent them from worsening and potentially requiring a root canal. This is why regular dental check-ups are crucial for maintaining good oral health in Cedar Hill, TX.

How can I make recovery from a root canal easier?

After a root canal, our team members at Fresh Dentistry will provide detailed instructions for you to follow at home. These may include avoiding hard or sticky foods and taking any prescribed pain medication as directed. Keep the treated areas clean and maintain good oral hygiene to promote healing. If you have any concerns regarding recovery, do not hesitate to reach out for assistance.
