What Are Dental Fillings?

Dental cavities are among the most common oral health issues. Cavities form when bacteria eat through the tooth enamel, creating an opening and potential entry point for a future infection. For years, dental cavities were filled with a material called amalgam, which is a mixture of metals, like silver or mercury. Now we know that these fillings don't adhere well with the teeth and that mercury is dangerous to your health. At Fresh Dentistry, we are excited to offer composite resin fillings as a more efficient, natural-looking solution for cavities. Sometimes referred to as dental restoration, fillings are designed to stick to the enamel, filling the space left by erosion and bacteria and sealing off the inside of the tooth. It's important to address cavities promptly to prevent future complications so reach out to schedule your exam and consultation with Dr. Candace Brown at our Cedar Hill, TX office today so we can work to protect the health of your smile.

What Can I Expect During My Dental Restoration?

Dental restorations at Fresh Dentistry are generally a quick and simple process. After cleaning your teeth, we will numb the area around the affected tooth with a local anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable. Other forms of sedation may be discussed if you have any anxieties or fears to keep you relaxed. As soon as you're prepared, the infected enamel will be treated using a specialized dental drill that Dr. Brown will select based on the cavity's location and severity. Once the enamel is treated and the tooth is cleaned, the cavity will be replaced with the composite resin and set with a special light. Dr. Brown will polish the composite resin so it matches your other teeth.

Dr. Cann and her staff are  AMAZING!! Currently visiting and needed a filling and I was immediately put on the schedule....definitely worth the drive! From the time I walked in nothing but hospitality! The staff are all pleasant and inviting (most comfortable waiting room chairs I've ever sat in and Dr. Cann's music is fantastic!). My dental assistant Angela did the best dental exam and Dr. Cann is so pleasant and very thorough! She listened to my concerns, explained all my options and did a beautiful job on my tooth😁. They even called the next day to see how I was doing. Looking to move to Texas and I've already found my dentist! Quality all around! I highly recommend Dr. Cann and her team!!

Dr. Brown is great and her staff is awesome as well. My initial visit was great and the hygienist did an excellent job cleaning my teeth. I came back for two fillings and a root canal. I was terrified but Dr. Brown made me feel so comfortable during the procedure, she explained everything the entire time, and No Pain at all! I trust her with my dental care and I’m happy I found her.

Came in for a dental cleaning and Julie was the one to work on me, I have to say she did a very good job! I came back the following week to get some fillings done and Dr.Brown was the one who worked on me with the help of Rosie. Overall they they were amazing, they were very detailed with explaining the procedure and answered all of the questions I had for them. 11/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone!

I must say this is the best dentist office I have been to since I was a kid. I walked in and immediately felt welcomed. The receptionist greeted me and made sure I was all set to go for my appointment. I enjoyed talking to the dental hygienist Rosy during my cleaning.. she made me feel very comfortable during the cleaning. I also felt very comfortable talking to the dentist (Dr. Brown.) about my future dental work. I will be back next month for cavity fillings.

Does getting a cavity filled hurt?

The process of filling a cavity usually involves minimal discomfort, as local anesthetics are applied to numb the area. Most patients feel only pressure or mild sensations during the procedure.
