What Is A Tooth Extraction?

At Fresh Dentistry, we make every effort to restore and preserve your natural teeth. Sometimes, though, a situation arises in which one or multiple teeth may need to be extracted. A simple extraction removes a tooth that's visible above the gumline. This is normally used for a tooth that is decayed or damaged and cannot be repaired. A surgical extraction removes a tooth that has not erupted above the gums (which is often the case with wisdom teeth or impacted teeth). Whatever your reason for needing a tooth extraction, Dr. Candace Brown and the team at Fresh Dentistry are committed to providing you with high-quality dental care. Our Cedar Hill, TX office provides multiple sedation techniques, like nitrous oxide and oral-conscious sedation, which means you can stay calm and comfortable during your treatment. What Can I Expect During My Tooth Extraction?

Dental extractions are performed in-office at our Cedar Hill, TX practice. Before your procedure starts, a member of our team will numb the tooth and gums with local anesthesia. We also offer sedation options for patients who need extra help staying relaxed at the dentist. Once you're prepared, Dr. Brown will start the procedure. To complete a simple extraction, Dr. Brown will loosen up the tooth with a special device called an elevator before removing the tooth. A surgical extraction entails making incisions into your gums to get to the tooth. If necessary, the tooth might be broken up into smaller pieces so that it can be removed. Once the tooth has been extracted, the gums will be closed with sutures. For patients at risk of infection, we may prescribe antibiotics to take before and after the procedure.

Great providers! Dr. S and his nurse were so gentle with my son’s baby tooth extraction. So much so he didn’t even realize he’d received a shot to complete the pull. They genuinely care about the patient experience. #sofreshsoclean
